The bad economy appears to have greatly increased the number of drivers who are driving without the required automobile insurance. A study from the Insurance Research Council released on January 21, 2009 predicts that "approximately one in six drivers across the U.S. may be driving uninsured by 2010. When car owners lose their jobs or have their hours cut back, many choose to reduce their car insurance coverage to lower limits or may even drop their coverage all together.
